Daily Fountain 2017 - Righteousness Without Christ

Friday September 1 Bible Reading:      Col. 2: 16 - 23 Topic:                   Righteousness Without Christ Paul addresses the worship of Angels, eating/abstinence from certain foods and drinks, undue emphasis on special days or worship e.t.c. which some use as yardsticks for measuring true spirituality. These observances give a false sense of righteousness, spiritual satisfaction and humility towards God. Sometimes, people misunderstand this passage to mean that Paul is authorizing Christians to live carelessly. Suffice it to say that any serious Christian cannot believe that since liberty in Christ does not equate to license to sin (Rom. 6: 1 - 2) In v. 19 Paul emphasized that those who live by these rules are not holding onto Christ or the Scriptures since such rules stem from doctrines, philosophies, cultures and tra...

Daily Fountain 2017 - Suffer Only For Righteousness

Thursday June 15 Bible Reading:      1 Pet. 4: 12 - 19 Topic:          Suffer Only For Righteousness The text today takes us into the very important subject of suffering for Christ after we have become Christians. Apostle Peter discusses two kinds of suffering here: 1.       Suffering that is a trial of our faith - that is training us in god's spirituality, suffering for righteousness or being a Christian (v 14) 2.       Suffering for being a wrong doer (v 15) Apostle Peter admonished that when a Christian suffers for being a Christian, he should count it great joy or be glad for this makes him a partner with Christ in suffering (v 13). It is a testimony to the life of Christ in him, and an earnest guarantee of the joy and glory reserved for him to share at the second coming of Christ. Now, ...

Daily Fountain 2017 - Walking With God

Thursday May 11 Bible Reading:      Gen. 5: 21 - 32 Topic:          Walking With God In today's passage, verse 2 says that Enoch walked with God and God took him straight to heaven without his dying. This shows that Enoch was very intimate with God. Walking with God means living for God, obeying God in all things, loving what God loves. Sometimes we claim to love God and yet refuse to do His Will. Walking with God also involves identifying with God in all circumstances - both in good times and bad. There are some who claim to be Christians but only display their Christianity on Sundays during the Church service; however on other days, in their work places, market places, clubs and other businesses, they live as those who don't truly know God. Their lives exhibit all forms of ungodly behaviour as Paul listed in Gal. 5: 19 - 21 Paul enjoins us to walk in the Spirit so...

Daily Fountain 2017 - The Truth You Know

Wednesday April 5 Bible Reading:      1 John 2: 24 - 29 Topic:          The Truth You Know If we start our reading from v. 18 which warns us about "the antichrist", we will better understand verses 24 - 29. Who is the antichrist? The antichrist may not become manifest yet, but the Scripture gives us clues about the present day antichrists. Matthew 24: 24 calls them false "christs" and false prophets who show (not perform) great signs and wonders, if only to deceive the gullible Christians. Paul in 2 Thess. 2: 2-12 describes them as men of lawlessness, who try to deceive believers by all means. They may even be those who have 'believed' the Gospel (v. 19) but are now showing their true colour by denying the faith. It is interesting that our text today addresses situations that exist today, whereby people adulterate the Gospel and perpetuate ...
