Sunday October 29
Bible Reading: John 1: 26 - 34
Topic: John The Baptist Proclaims
Yesterday's reading showed
John the Baptist declaring himself "a voice calling in the desert, make
straight the way of the Lord" (a quotation from Isa. 40: 3)
In today's text, John saw
Jesus coming towards him where he was baptising converts in the River Jordan
and announces (v. 29) "look the Lamb of God Who takes away the sins of the
world"
In humility we see John
taking the humbler place in speaking about Jesus as "A Man Who comes after
me has surpassed me because He was before me ... Who will baptize with the Holy
Spirit ...." (v. 30, 33)
In v. 27, John the Baptist said he was not even worthy to be Christ's slave, to
perform the humble task of unfastening His shoes.
But in Luke 7: 28, Jesus
had given a testimony that John was the greatest of the Prophets. If such a
person felt inadequate even to be Christ's slave, how much more should we in
Ministry by whatever title or label lay aside our pride to serve Jesus Christ?
When many of us in service
truly understand Who Christ is, our pride and arrogance in the stage of service
where we are, our self importance should melt away.
Prayer
Oh Father help me Lord to humble
myself like John the Baptist as I serve You where I am and what I am now, Amen.
Memory Verse John 1: 29
"The next day John
seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God which taketh
away the sin of the world."
