Sunday August 6
Bible Reading: Matt. 16: 24; 17: 9
Topic: Need For A Transformed Life
It is so easy for us to
only focus on the blessings in Christianity which Christ procured through His
suffering, death and resurrection, without realizing that those blessings came
at a huge cost.
The disciples failed to
understand the deeper implications of the Life and Ministry of Christ hence
Peter rebuked Him when He talked of His death.
Jesus had to set the
record straight.
Following Him would bring
suffering and His disciples must choose to die daily to their own desires and
live only for His will and purpose in their lives.
Following this teaching
and encounter, Jesus gave a revelation of Who He truly is to His inner circle
on the Mount of Transfiguration. Moses and Elijah appeared to confirm that He
was the fulfillment of both the law and the Prophets.
Peter's request tried to
put them on the same level as Jesus but God spoke to teach them that Jesus is
unique and they must believe and obey Him alone.
What Jesus is in His
Glory, we too can become as we take our cross daily and follow Him in the power
of His Spirit Who alone can conform us to His Image (Rom. 8: 29)
Prayer
Father sustain this hope
for eternal glory in me till I have realized it, Amen
Memory Verse Matt.16: 24
"Then Jesus said unto
His disciples: If any man will come after Me, let him deny himself and take up
his cross and follow Me"
