Thursday January 19th
Bible Reading: Heb. 9: 1 - 10
Topic: The Old Covenant
The old Covenant was
observed with regulations: foods, drinks, and animal sacrifices which were
repeated daily.
Other materials were also
used in the services at the Tabernacle by the Priests (Ex. 25)
They were placed in the in
the outer room of the Tabernacle, but the Inner Room (The Holy of Holies) was
where God dwelt among His People Israel.
The Priest could only
enter into the Inner Room once a year with the blood of atonement for himself
and for the People.
However, the blood of
those animals used for the atonement could not permanently deal with the
problem of sin. It could neither cleanse nor purify their consciences.
The Old Covenant served as
a pointer to a New and Better Covenant that could perfect man and purify his
conscience from dead works.
This better Covenant would
be administered by another High Priest Who would enter Heaven itself not with
the blood of animals but with His own Blood.
This New Covenant has the
power to destroy the cause and source of sin and cleanse man's conscience (Heb.
9: 13 - 14)
If you are still engaged
in the observance of the Old Testament such as observing new moons, days,
seasons, submitting to regulations about things to touch or eat (Gal. 2: 8 -
27), please come to the New Covenant and fine true freedom and rest.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to see
Your Way and to please You, Amen
Memory verse: Heb. 9: 9
"Which was a figure
for the time then present; in which were offered both gifts and sacrifices,
that could not make him that did the service perfect, as pertaining to the
conscience."
