Bible Reading: Jer. 9: 17 - 22
Topic: Comfort To You My Child
Our reading today falls
within the section of the prophecy of Jeremiah where he bitterly laments the
terrible judgments about to be inflicted upon his countrymen because of their
sins (9: 1 - 9)
Judah shall be utterly
desolated and the inhabitants transplanted into heathen Countries (vs. 10 -
17).
The judgment will be so
severe that they would not be able to mourn adequately for the disaster that
would befall them, therefore in allusion to an ancient custom, they are called
upon to invite a band of professional wailing women who will be paid to help
them lament over the ruins of Jerusalem (vs. 17, 18)
In our lives, we sometimes
experience sorrow due to loss or remorse for sin. Today a word of comfort is
coming to you from the Throne of Mercy.
God allows sorrow in our
lives in order to refine and draw us closer to Himself (Ps. 119: 50, 67; Rom.
8: 26; Jas 1: 2-4); to teach us compassion and make us a greater blessing to
others (2 Cor. 1: 4) or to bring us to repentance (2 Cor. 7: 9 - 11)
Whether your sorrow is
self inflicted due to sin or caused by circumstances beyond your control, let
it serve to draw you closer to God today.
Prayer:
My God and my Father, in
obedience to Your Word, I repent of all my sins. Please forgive me and heal me
and set me free from all my grief. Give me grace to trust You in difficult times,
so that I can grow closer to You through it through Jesus Christ our Lord,
Amen.
Memory verse: Jer. 9: 22
"Speak, thus saith the
Lord . Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field and as
the handful after the harvestman and none shall gather them"
