Bible Reading: James 4: 1 - 12
Topic: Watch Your Desires
We all have desires, no
matter our level in life and today in v1, James addresses not just our desires
but the motives behind them.
Though we may hide our
motives from fellow human beings, we cannot hide them from God for Heb. 4: 13
warns that "there is no creature hidden from His Sight, but all things are
naked and open to the Eyes of Him to Whom we must give account (Psalm 139: 1 -
12)
James further warns that
unanswered prayers could be a result of wrong motives located in our desires.
He says "You ask and do not receive because you ask amiss, that you may
spend it on your pleasures" (v. 3)
Some people go to very
ungodly lengths to get what they want, even to the point of damaging or
destroying others.
No child of God should
engage in such activities.
Success achieved through
such ungodly means is not of God and will lead to spiritual ruin.
Beloved, if we pray with
wrong motives, God will lovingly correct us in order to bring us back onto the
Path of His Will, if we are truly His Children.
The word for you today is
- when you pray and ask God for anything, be conscious of your motives.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, keep me in the
right and correct motives in my prayers so that my answers will always come
without delay in Jesus Name, Amen.
Memory verse: James 4: 7
"Submit yourselves
therefore to God, resist the devil and he will flee from thee"
