Bible Reading: Romans 2: 17 - 29
Topic: An Exam For The Examiner
During a Post Graduate
Internal Defence exercise, a full time Lecturer in a Nigerian University who
was also a Ph.D student was to defend his Thesis.
As a Lecturer, he had been
examining his students after teaching them. But on the day of his internal
defence, the examiner faced his own examination.
So it is with us.
In our passage today,
there is a direct question of self examination "you who teach another, do
you teach yourself?, you who preaches that a man should not steal, do you
steal?, You who teaches that a man should not commit adultery, do you commit
adultery? (vs. 21 - 23)
The Jews boast over their
righteousness and spiritual superiority over Gentiles made those questions
timely and necessary for them.
Let us examine ourselves
and ask God to show us where we need positive change.
Let us ask God to help us
not to merely profess Christ while our character contradicts our profession.
We must take this matter
seriously.
Today is the examination
for the examiner
Prayer:
Lord examine me lest I
examine myself wrongly and give myself a pass mark which bears no resemblance
to the reality of my true spiritual condition, Amen
Memory verse: Romans 2: 29
"But he is a Jew
which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit and
not in the letter; whose praise is not of man but of God."
