Sunday February 12
Bible Reading: Psalms 34: 11 - 13
Topic: Discipline Your Tongue
As a growing child, Sam's
family had an almanac in the living room that had the picture of a woman whose
mouth was under lock and key.
One day he asked his
mother what the woman in the almanac did that caused them to padlock her mouth.
His mother convinced him
that her tongue was leading her into so many sins so she padlocked it herself
to keep away from sin.
After a long time, he
asked his father the same question and he said, "it was to save her
life."
The Psalmist in our text
today teaches that we exhibit the fear of God when we keep our tongue from evil
and our lips from speaking guile.
You cannot claim to have
the fear of God when you are ruled by your tongue instead of ruling your
tongue.
To rule your tongue is to
discipline it and that is one way to show the fear of God.
In verse 12, the Psalmist
maintains that you are sure to live long and see good things when you
discipline your tongue.
Are you a talkative?
If yes, today is an opportunity to make amends.
If yes, today is an opportunity to make amends.
You have to determine to
keep control of your tongue through whatever means that works for you.
However, it must be a
deliberate choice
Prayer:
My God and my Father, help me to use my tongue to
build rather than destroy, to exalt rather than condemn, to praise rather than
curse so that at the end, I may be found worthy to partake in Your Everlasting
Grace, Amen
Memory verse: Psalms 34: 13
