Bible Reading: Habakkuk 1: 1 - 17
Topic: God Punishes Wickedness
Habakkuk saw the
wickedness of Judah which manifested in oppression, bribery, lawlessness, and
unrighteousness prevalent in the courts e.t.c.
Such was the level of
wickedness of Judah which was supposed to be a holy and blessed nation.
Habakkuk became worried over whether God would keep quiet forever give that the
situation has lasted so long.
God expressed His
intention to punish Judah through the Chaldeans who were even more wicked than
Judah. This gave Habakkuk concern but God said the Chaldeans (Babylonians)
would also be punished in their own time, it also happened.
Are the characteristics of
Judah expounded in our text any different from that of our Nation today?
Our leaders should note
that God punishes wickedness at His own time. We can only hope that some of
what our Nation is going through today is not a sign of God's punishment.
As an individual, are you
an oppressor? engaging in bribery? breaking the law? perverting justice? e.t.c.
God's punishment is coming.
To escape it is to turn
from your wicked way and accept Jesus today.
And if you have already
taken this step, then you need to examine your life to be sure that you are
living according to your confession.
Prayer:
God forgive the wickedness
of our Nation's leaders and my own wickedness, Amen
Memory verse: Habakkuk1: 12
"Art Thou not from
everlasting O Lord my God, mine Holy One? We shall not die, O Lord, Thou hast ordained
them for judgement and O Mighty God, Thou hast established them for correction."
