Bible Reading: 1 Cor. 15: 35 - 49
Topic: From Corruption To Incorruption
Today's passage reveals
the mystery God performs in plants.
When a seed is sown in the
ground, it dies, decomposes and ceases to exist in the form of a seed. However,
life comes from that dead and begins to grow and bear fruits.
In John 12: 24, Jesus
clearly told us that except a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains alone but when it dies
it bears much fruit.
The fruits it bears as
Paul said in today's passage have a different type of body to the seed sown.
Paul used this
illustration to show that our resurrection body will be different from the body
we have now.
Our earthly bodies will
decay after death, but God will give us spiritual bodies suitable for eternity
and incapable of any corruption (vs. 42b - 44).
This resurrection body
will not be subject to sickness and death (corruption), shame because of sin
(dishonour), frailty in temptation (weakness) or limitations of time and space.
In Heaven there will be no more sorrow, weeping, suffering or lack.
Since this is the case,
let us strive to live righteously here on earth so that when we are transformed
in death, we shall live forever with Christ.
Prayer:
Oh God, my loving Father,
please help me to discipline myself as I wait for my transformation, Amen
Memory Verse: 1 Cor. 15: 42
"So also is the resurrection
of the dead. It is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption"
