Bible Reading: Gen. 13: 8 - 18
Topic: Strife Forbidden
Troubled brew between the
herdsmen of Lot and Abram and to prevent the quarrel from escalating into a
major family conflict, Abram arranged for a peaceful separation between himself
and Lot.
Though he was much older
than Lot, he gave Lot first choice and Lot chose the lush pastures toward
Sodom.
God rewarded Abram's
peaceful attitude by reaffirming His commitment to give the entire land of
Canaan to him and his descendants forever.
1 Pet. 3: 10 says "He
who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil and
his lips from speaking deceit. Let him turn away from evil and do good; let him
seek peace and pursue it. For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His
Ears are open to their prayers. But the Face of the Lord is against those who
do evil"
Abram's example gives us
the blueprint for resolving family conflicts.
In your relationships with
people, do your best to avoid strife. The Bible enjoins us to rather suffer
being wronged instead of striving and quarreling with others; - 1 Cor. 6: 7
Jesus tells us that
peacemakers are children of God.
Are you one of them or do
you always insist on your rights?
Prayer:
Dear Father, please
incline my heart to seek and pursue peace.
Memory Verse: Gen. 13: 16
"And I will make thy
seed as the dust of the earth, so that if a man can number the dust of the
earth, then shall thy seed also be numbered"
