Bible Reading: 1 Pet. 5: 8 - 14
Topic: Be Sober, Be Watchful And Stand Firm
Apostle Peter follows up
his charge to the Elders to lead God's flock well with a call to Christians to
be alert and watchful.
The devil is constantly on
the prowl seeking for his next victim to devour or ruin.
The Church is not asked to
run away, but to stand firm on her ground and be strong in her faith. In other
words, the Christian should put on his God-given armour - to wear it night and
day - for ambushed lies the evil one.
The pieces of the armour
have been presented by Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6: 10 - 19.
The forceful military
expression "resist" used in Peter's charge is a clarion call or
battle shout to the Christian. It is not a battle restricted or peculiar to
only one Christian, it is the common challenges of all Christians worldwide.
Whatever may betide you
today - an illness, unemployment, satan's attacks, ridicule, rejection; be
encouraged to know that there is glory awaiting you in eternity.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, fill me with
boldness to stand firm in faith and to resist the devil successfully in all my
life, Amen.
Memory Verse 1 Pet. 5: 8
"Be sober, be
vigilant; because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion walketh about,
seeking whom he may devour."
