(St. Barnabas the Apostle)
Bible Reading: Acts 11: 19 - 30
Topic: Like Barnabas, Be Devoted To God's Work
In today's reading, much
was said about a man called Barnabas ("son of consolation).
He was sent by the Church
in Jerusalem to visit the Church at Antioch. He comforted and encouraged the
new converts to hold on to their new found faith and never give up.
Barnabas was a good man,
full of the Holy Spirit and faith. Through the grace of God upon his life, many
people were added to the Lord.
When he saw the great and
open door at Antioch, he went down to Tarsus to bring Paul so that they both
could hand the work together.
They worked hard in
Antioch for a whole year. No wonder the believers in Antioch were the first to
be called "Christians" showing the impact of the joint Ministry of
Paul and Barnabas there.
Looking at the life and
ministry of Barnabas, the Church today should be challenged to a life of
devotion to God. The Church and individual Christians should take up
discipleship and mentoring young converts with seriousness.
Christians should live in such
godliness that will cause man to praise God and be attracted to the God Whose
Spirit is working in their lives.
We call all to become the
Barnabas where they are now
Prayer
Help me, O God, to live
and serve in such godliness, that characterized the life and ministry of Your
servant Barnabas, Amen.
