Holy Saturday
Bible Reading: Matt. 27: 57 - 66
Topic: A Rich Man Of Arimathea
On that day of
crucifixion, Jesus died before they could break any of His bones to hasten
death, thus fulfilling another prophecy of David (Ps. 34: 20)
To make assurance doubly sure therefore, the
soldiers thrust a spear into His side, fulfilling yet another prophecy by
Zechariah (Zech. 12: 10)
A certain rich man from
Arimathea named Joseph, a member of the Sanhedrin who did not agree with the
plotters who killed Jesus approached Pilate for the release of the body so He
could be buried in the expensive tomb he had prepared for his own burial.
Then the Jewish leaders
arranged to secure the tomb with a very heavy stone, placed a Roman seal over
the tomb (v. 66) and appointed guards to watch over it.
The courageous action of
Joseph of Arimathea is worthy of note. Though he was a secret disciple, his
sacrificial giving of his expensive tomb brought him to the limelight as a
genuine follower at a time when all Jesus Disciples had gone into hiding for
fear of the authorities.
In your local Church, what
can you offer for the furtherance of the Gospel in your locality?
In what ways can you stand
up courageously for the cause of Christ?
Prayer:
Lord grant me the grace to
give generously for Your Service without counting the loss, Amen
Memory verse: Matt. 27 : 67
"So, they went and
made the sepulchre sure; sealing the stone and setting a watch"
