Bible Reading: 1 John 3: 10 - 15
Topic: Love: The Identity Of God's Family
When a baby is born into a
family, people are eager to know who of the father or mother s/he resembles.
The baby may have some
features of the mother and father in different proportions but it will be
strange there is nothing in the physical, emotional or moral make-up of the
child that reflects his or her parents in birth or upbringing.
In our reading today,
believers are seen as members of one family - the Family of God.
As a member of God's
Family, you are expected to carry your Father's identity which is love and
extend this love to the brethren.
John takes it further
a. Love for one another should be the first lesson a child of God
should learn (v. 11)
b. You should love a brother even if he is preferred above you in
position or reckoning (v. 12)
c. Your brotherly love can bring alienation and persecution from
the world (vs. 13 - 14)
However we also need to
heed the warning "Whoever hates his brother is a murderer and no murderer
has eternal life abiding in him" (v. 15)
Jesus said the world would
know we are His if we love one another (John 13: 35)
Therefore love for the
brethren is your Sonship identity
Prayer:
Father let Your Love
always shine through me, Amen
Memory verse: 1 John 3: 15
"Whosoever hateth his
brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding
in him"
